While the reception for Peacemaker season 2 has been largely favorable, with viewers and reviewers praising the acting and storyline—despite the fact that the big twist in the seventh installment didn't come as a shock—a particular criticism has only grown stronger throughout the season: decreasing episode runtimes.
In recent weeks, viewers have voiced frustration over the significantly reduced episode lengths in season 2, and indeed, the episodes have been getting shorter and shorter. Episode 7, titled “Like a Keith in the Night,” lasted only 28 minutes (excluding the recap, opening credits, and closing credits), marking the briefest installment yet.
Fans will be pleased to learn next week's episode is nearly an hour in length.
Series creator and DC Universe head James Gunn wrote via social media, replying to a viewer's concern.
Although this is encouraging, it's unknown exactly how much of the 57 minutes will be actual new footage, uncluttered by intro and outro segments, or summaries of past episodes. However, even if the episode includes all the aforementioned filler, that still leaves roughly three-quarters of an hour for the concluding episode, which is a significant improvement after episode 7.
Gunn previously teased that the last episode would not only conclude Peacemaker but also provide clues towards the direction the greater DCU at large will be moving and serve as a kind of precursor for the next Superman movie. Given the cameo of the actor's portrayal of Lex Luthor from episode 6, many are anticipating a juicy cameo to conclude the show.
Peacemaker's season conclusion, the eighth episode, is titled "The Full Nelson," and audiences must wait to see if fans' suspicions are proven correct.
